Blogmas Day 1: Books To Read in December

Hello!

It is the 1st of December and thus the first day of Blogmas 2020! I have never done Blogmas before and for some stupid reason I decided this year would be the first year to give it a go. It’s a challenge coming up with a post for 25 consecutive days but it’s one I want to try and it always looks really fun, so why not?

As the title suggests, day one is the books and stories I want to read in December!

I want to round the year out with 60 books read, so as I’m currently on 52 I have a TBR of a rather ambitious eight books! They’re all on the short side so I hope I get to read them all!!

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

I always read A Christmas Carol in December, whether physically or on audiobook. It’s a reading tradition I’ve stuck to for a few years now and I don’t see myself ever breaking it because for one way or another, A Christmas Carol has always been a part of my life at Christmas, whether that’s through reading the book or watching one of the film adaptations. I also just love the story for what it is, one of redemption, kindness, thankfulness etc and I think that’s why it has become such an enduring classic, and one I’ll always enjoy.

A Visit from St Nicholas/T’was The Night Before Christmas by Clement C Moore

This is another traditional read and re-read for me in December and at Christmas. I don’t really have any special reason apart from the fact I just love it and it’s a nice, cozy, magical read that again is so timeless.

The Silent Stars Go By by Sally Nicholls

Sally Nicholls is fast becoming one of my favourite YA Historical Fiction authors, and The Silent Stars Go By is her most recent release to make me feel things even before I’ve read it. I’m also reading this right now. I’m about 60 pages in and liking it so far. I can’t wait to see how it develops.

The Reckless Afterlife of Harriet Stoker by Lauren James

I’ve heard mixed things about this book but I usually love Lauren James’ books for her fast action, the twists and turns, and the ability to get me completely engrossed in her stories. Hopefully the same can be said for this one and as it is quite different from the other books, I’m intrigued to see how it will play out.

Savage Her Reply by Deirdre Sullivan

I loved Tangleweed and Brine when I read that a while ago and I’m really excited for this. Deirdre Sullivan’s writing is poetic, gorgeous and perfect for retellings so I have high hopes that I’ll love this too.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

I’ve read a few Agatha Christie novels this year and this is the one I’ve had on my shelves for a while. My copy is very pretty and wintery and it looks like the perfect mystery to curl up with this December. I can’t wait to read it and understand the hype for this particular book as it is one of the most loved Christie novels out there.

The Deathless Girls by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

I’ve had this on my shelves for a while and I’m still really intrigued by it. I think the hype has died down a little but I really like Kiran Millwood Hargrave’s writing so I have high hopes I’ll enjoy this too.

The Way Past Winter

A Middle Grade novel and one I hope to fly through. I’ve had this on my shelf for a couple of years now and Winter is the perfect time to read it.

And that it is. Eight books to read in December. As I said at the top, this is a rather ambitious set of books for me as I’ve only been managing to read a max of four books a month. Hopefully I can do it if I prioritise reading in my down time.
