Hello and welcome to day 6 of Blogmas. For today’s post I want to share with you a small pre-Christmas Book Haul.
I did not expect to buy any books for myself before Christmas but I had to run some errands yesterday and I can never go past my local independent bookshop, Forget-Me-Not Books, without going in and browsing. Also, it is really good and necessary to support our local small businesses right now so I was happy to do my bit and buy a few books, even if book buying wasn’t one of my initial errands.

Daemon Voices: On Stories and Storytelling by Philip Pullman
A set of essays by the author of His Dark Materials, I’ve wanted this book ever since it came out three years ago. It’s not something I would generally read but His Dark Materials has been one of my favourite series for years and I’m fascinated to see where a lot of Pullman’s inspiration and thoughts have come from. They also dip into the art of storytelling and his experience as a writer and that’s something I’m really interested in.

Christmas Poems chosen by Gaby Morgan and illustrated by Axel Scheffler
I love poetry, especially classic poetry, and this caught my eye as a rather charming collection perfect to read in the run up to Christmas, or even curled up on Christmas Eve. I’m also going to switch out one of my December TBR books for this because I want a cosy read, and this will certainly be it.

Letters from Father Christmas by J.R.R.Tolkien, edited by Baillie Tolkien
I have Beth from BooksNest to thank for this because it is watching her videos from the past couple of weeks that have put this book on my radar. I’ve been getting into Tolkien’s writing recently through Lord of the Rings and whilst I’m struggling a little (it’s simply a case of finding the right format for me), I’m loving his imagination, creativity, and general writing ability, and this collection of letters from Father Christmas (clearly Tolkien to his children) looks to epitomise all of that. It’s also beautifully presented and I can’t wait to read it. Similarly to Christmas Poems, it is going straight on and right to the top of my December TBR.

There we have it. My three book, pre-Christmas book haul.

Have you bought any books recently? Or are you patiently waiting for Christmas?
As always, thank you so much for reading and have a brazzle dazzle day!
xx
I really want to read Letters from Father Christmas! But, I admit, I am holding out for the audiobook since it is narrated by Derek Jacobi (and others). Happy Haul!
