The second half of the year is nearly upon us and it is time for me to reflect on what has happened up until now, as well as plan or think what I want to happen between July and December.
At the end of 2020, I didn’t write or plan any goals for 2021. With the pandemic, it was and still is a case of taking it one day at a time, accepting that plans and goals change or end up being thrown out of the window when the uncontrollable happens. It’s about taking control of what I can control. For me, this is books, my reading, blogging, crafting and the little things that keep me going.
Decreasing my Goodreads goal from 40 to 30 books.
Really I set one this year simply for the sake of setting it, and Goodreads asked me to when I rejoined it a few months ago. I put it at 40 because that was simply my benchmark for last year, but with how up and down my reading has been, 30 books felt a better number. I also don’t care when or how long it takes me to read anymore so it’s about taking back that pleasure in reading, even if I only get ten minutes to read a couple of pages.
Only requesting the NetGalley books I really want.
From the very beginning I knew I didn’t want to go crazy with the NetGalley ARCs, and now I’ve had a couple requests accepted, it’s something I want strict control over. I’m also not the best at reading and reviewing books during a set timeframe so the fewer NetGalley ARCs I have and ultimately request, the better it is for me.
Feeling okay about not keeping completely up to date with blog posts and writing/ignoring statistics.
Particularly in April and May, I found that I didn’t want to write much. I wasn’t actively planning or scheduling a lot of content and it started to stress me out a little because I knew it would have an impact on statistics and being motivated to blog again. I then remembered that I shouldn’t care. I’m not a blogger by profession. It’s an interest, a hobby, something I do in my spare time, which is ultimately decreasing because life is happening. There are things going on with me and life in general that are more important at the moment and I don’t know what effect that will have on future blog posts. It’s a “let’s take it day by day” scenario and just see what happens.
And with that, the ramble is over.
What do you want to do moving forward into the second half of the year?
Are there any reading, blogging or book-related aspects that have changed for you?
As always, thanks for reading and have a brazzle dazzle day!
