Scouring the Shelves: Autumn Reads

Autumn is now in full swing and over the last couple of weeks or so, I’ve seen a few Autumn TBRs floating around the blogosphere. Now, we know by now on here that I am not really a TBR person. I have to let my mood dictate what I read. However, at this time of year, I do tend to gravitate towards mysteries, the supernatural, nitty-gritty storylines and books that possess a gothic-like atmosphere, and I have quite a few of them on my shelves.

Not wanting to narrow them down, there are twelve books I want to highlight and share so let’s dive in.

Note – I’ll leave links to the Goodreads pages for the summaries so I’m not making this post longer than it needs to be.

The Wren Hunt by Mary Watson – YA | thriller | mythology | romance

The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox – Adult | historical fiction | witchcraft

The Darker Arts by Oscar de Muriel – Adult | historical fiction | crime | mystery

The Wicked Deep by Shea Earnshaw – YA | witches | mystery | paranormal

A Secret History of Witches by Louisa Morgan – Adult | historical fiction | witchcraft | magical realism

The Binding by Bridget Collins – Adult | historical fiction | books about books |

Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver – Adult | historical fiction | thriller | paranormal | gothic

The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave – Adult | historical fiction | witches | LGBT

The Corset by Laura Purcell – Adult | historical fiction | mystery | thriller | gothic

Cunning Women by Elizabeth Lee – Adult | historical fiction | witchcraft | romance

The Deathless Girls by Kiran Millwood Hargrave – YA | retelling | paranormal | horror

Mrs England by Stacey Halls – Adult | historical fiction | gothic | mystery

I think we’ll see which ones I pick up and prioritise as the season progresses but at the moment I do feel tempted by Wakenhyrst, Cunning Women or Mrs England. Like I said, we’ll see.

Do you read seasonally? If so, what books do you think you might read during Autumn?

As always, thanks for reading and have a brazzle dazzle day!

  1. I definitely don’t read seasonally, I just read what I want and when I want. I rarely pick what I’m going to read per month because I’m quite an emotional reader, so I need to read something that’s in my sort of mindframe! All these books look beautiful, the covers of all of these are stunning!

    1. I don’t pick books per month either. I’m such a mood reader that I can’t do that, but when it gets to Autumn, I always feel in the mood for mysteries and creepy atmospheric reads.
