When it comes to the spooky season, we all have our favourite fictional creatures, genres and stories. I’m one for witches whether inherently magical, or misunderstood and unfairly persecuted, and every time I come across a book that centres around them, I have to own it. The only problem is, and it’s not new, is that I acquire books faster than I read them so my TBR is ridiculous. Many books remain on my shelves for a while before I get round to reading them all (I’m also a slower, more haphazard reader than I used to be), and it means there are a lot of witchy books that I’ve not yet read.
Every October I think I will read them, and I don’t, so they are still on my TBR. It’s madness and let’s pray I pick up the odd one this spooky season.
I’m not going to go through them all in detail, but here they are:
Shelved Physical Books

- The Witches of Blackbrook by Tish Thawer
- The Secret History of Witches by Louisa Morgan
- The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
- The Witch of Willow Hall (one I did partially read a few years ago and need to pick up again)
- Cunning Women by Elizabeth Lee
- Witch by Finbar Hawkins (a relatively new release in comparison to the others)
- The Hemlock Cure by Joanne Burn (another newer release but I thought I would have picked this up by now)
- The Lighthouse Witches by C.J.Cooke
Kindle Books
I’ve been forgetting about my Kindle a lot lately but I’ve replaced my iPad and re-downloaded the app, so hopefully I’ll be reading more ebooks again.

- The Witch Finder’s Sister by Beth Underdown (I do have a vague recollection of partly listening to the audiobook for this about 4/5 years ago, but I can’t remember anything about it so it’s back on the TBR)
- Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman
- The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston
Eleven books in total and I am utterly ashamed. It’s madness and let’s hope that this October is the time I get through some of them.
What witchy reads do you have on your TBR? Or if you’re not into witches, what are your favourite, fictional supernatural creatures?
As always thanks for reading and have a brazzle dazzle day!

I’ve only read A Secret History of Witches and Practical Magic, but these all look good! (I love witch books!)

I haven’t read these, but I feel your pain on the issue of wanting to read spooky or otherwise seasonal books in October, then then… not. Some of the witchy books on my TBR are A Discovery of Witches and The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches.

A Discovery of Witches is one of my favourites. It is usually a book and series I find myself rereading every year but I’ve not managed that this time.

Oh cool! It’s one that I had recommended by a RL friend, but I haven’t had a chance to actually start reading yet.

Thinking about it now apart from HP, I don’t think I’ve read any books with witches in it? I’ve read a fair few which have magic in it but none of them were witches. I’ve heard good things about some of these books on this list, so I’ll have to rectify that!
